The food and drink industry is extremely important to the UK/Scottish economy and Abertay research within the Division of Engineering and Food Science is at the forefront of new developments and knowledge transfer in food innovation and sustainability. Current research projects cover a range of food science and technology topics. These include: evaluation of novel yeasts for whisky fermentations, legumes as sustainable raw materials for foods and beverages, non-thermal food preservation processes, ultrasound extraction of food bioactives, Maillard reaction products, food antioxidants, E-cigarette emissions, sensory science using electromyography and chemistry of oak maturation of spirits.

  • Research degrees require an Upper Second Class Honours degree (or equivalent) at undergraduate level in an appropriate discipline and/or a Master’s degree.

International student fees are guaranteed in advance for the duration of the study. Abertay University offers financial support for living and travel costs.

Undergraduate Abertay International Scholarship

  • Amount

    £12,000 (£3,000 per annum, for a maximum of 4 years)

  • Requirements

  • Be classified as International (Overseas) fee status by Abertay University.
  • Registered as a full-time student for your first undergraduate degree.
  • Have met all the academic conditions attached to your offer of admission for entry to the University as a new full-time student in September.
  • Be studying on campus at the University.

International Postgraduate Abertay Scholarship

  • Amount

    £3,000

  • Requirements

  • Are classified as International (Overseas) fee status by Abertay University.
  • Are applying for postgraduate study with the equivalent of a UK 2

    1 Bachelor's degree equivalent or better (approximately 60% and above).
