Alvernia University is a private Franciscan University located in Reading, Pennsylvania. The University offers a vibrant intellectual environment in which students learn, discover, give and grow as leaders with moral courage.

Alvernia is guided by Franciscan values and rooted in Catholic and liberal arts traditions. Students can choose from more than 50 undergraduate programs across four main colleges: College of Business, Communication and Leadership; College of Health Sciences; College of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences; College of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.

The University also offers degrees at the graduate level including master's and doctoral programs, as well as accelerated and adult education programs.

Alvernia's main campus boasts a thriving living and learning environment. The 121-acre campus is home to about 3,000 students and is within a short drive to Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington DC, and New York City.

Undergraduate Scholarships Alvernia University offers scholarships to each admitted international freshman and transfer student wishing to earn an undergraduate degree as a traditional day student at our main Reading campus. These merit scholarships are renewable for four years (up to eight semesters), all in the same amount.

Veronica Founder's Scholarship

    Qualified international students who exhibit leadership potential and a desire to serve as a cultural ambassador in the US. Heritage Award

Life at Alvernia University

No matter where you are from, you'll be welcomed at Alvernia University as your new home. Students from all over the world currently live and study at Alvernia, so you won't be alone as an international student.

The International Admissions team is responsible for supporting you with everything from your visa process and requirements to your unique needs as an international student. On-campus housing is available to all students, with a range of dining options available.

New Student Orientation takes place the third week of August. This is a great opportunity to learn all about Alvernia, meet new people, and settle into campus life. An Alvernia representative will meet you at the airport and bring you to the main campus in Reading.

Outside of the classroom, there are more than 50 campus clubs and organizations you can get involved in to meet like-minded students. Clubs cover sports, community, academics, environment, theatre, and load of other areas, so there's bound to be something perfect for you.
