Study abroad at OCAD University

OCAD University (Ontario College of Art and Design University) is the largest and most comprehensive art, design, and media university in Canada. Located in the heart of Toronto and close to the banks of Lake Ontario, OCAD U’s striking inner-city campus is perfectly positioned next to the Art Gallery of Ontario and Grange Park.

Since 1876, OCAD U has been dedicated to teaching art and design, and today it boasts a wide range of innovative programs students can study. There are programs available in the fields of digital media and design, sustainability, health and wellness, cultural diversity, and indigenous cultures.

The University’s cutting-edge campus provides all the facilities students need to thrive. There are several extensive libraries available, as well as several galleries and exhibition spaces that host national and international artists, as well as work by students and faculty. Students have access to modern studio spaces and equipment, as well as communal study spaces.

OCAD U is a truly international university. International students make up more than a quarter of the student body giving the campus a diverse and cosmopolitan atmosphere.

The University is a 100% commuter campus, which means all students need to find off-campus accommodation. OCAD U will be available to help you find housing, be it a flat share, apartment, or homestay.

All new students can attend welcome activities and orientation sessions to help you settle into life in Toronto. Activities include city tours, information sessions, and social outings so you can get to know your new home and meet new people.

The university offers a range of support services for all students, including the mental wellness Student Support Program. There are also lots of student groups you can join to meet like-minded students, including athletics, foundry, animation, and architecture.

Funding

Scholarships

OCAD U's Undergraduate Scholarships recognize overall academic achievement by their overall average within their program major of study or by the highest grade in a specific course and are designed to encourage continued studies. They are given at the 1st, 2nd and 3rd year levels in Faculties of Art, Design and Liberal Arts & Sciences/School of Interdisciplinary Studies.

Awards

OCAD U's Undergraduate Awards recognize achievement in each program major at the fourth-year level normally through a juried competition at the end of each academic year. Awards are given as cash awards.

OCAD U Bursary for International Students

As an international student, you may be eligible to receive funding from this bursary.

International Student Emergency Fund

This fund helps current undergraduate and postgraduate international students who are experiencing financial difficulties due to an unexpected situation beyond their control. These bursaries are short-term emergency solutions and are not meant to provide ongoing financial support. You may only receive one bursary per academic year.

Qualifications

  • Be currently registered in a degree program at OCAD U (exchange students and Special Students are not eligible)
  • Have a valid study permit
  • Be living in Ontario at the time of application

Fee information

  • Undergraduate tuition: CAD$24,619 per year
  • Postgraduate tuition: from CAD$24,269 to CAD$38,625 per year
