Funding

Early Admission Tuition Scholarship

This CAD$1000 scholarship rewards those new applicants who receive an Offer of Admission by February 1, of the upcoming school year. Applicable to the September intake for the upcoming school year. Students are not eligible for this award if they will be receiving a Second Degree Discount. If a student is awarded the EATS scholarship but defers their admission until the Winter term they may receive a CAD$500 amount in the Winter term.

Qualifications

  • Register for and successfully complete a minimum 80% course load per semester (12 credits excluding PLAR and Audit Credit) during the school year

New International World Scholarship

This scholarship provides CAD$1500 to new international world students.

Qualifications

  • Be a first time international world student at Burman University (excluding US/Bermuda/Bahamas or graduates of Maxwell Academy)
  • Register for and successfully complete a minimum 80% course load per semester (12 credits excluding PLAR and Audit Credit) during the school year

Continuing Academic Excellence

This award will be applied to the student account in the month following the end of each semester. Students who achive the required GPA for a given fall or winter semester are eligible to receive a scholarship of CAD$500 per semester.

Qualifications

  • Students who complete at least 12 academic credits
  • GPA 4.0
  • Students taking more than 3 credits in a Practicum that gives a S/U grade must have a total credit count of 15 credits
  • Available for full-time students

Additional Degree Discount

Students who have completed a 4 year degree from Burman University may receive a 50% discount off the tuition rate for additional coursework. Students who have completed a 4 year degree from another accredited institution may apply to the Registrar’s Office for a transcript evaluation, if eligible they may receive a 25% discount off the tuition rate for additional coursework. The application of this policy is subject to class space and existing course offerings.

Student Missionary

Returning student missionaries from a Burman University approved position are eligible for a scholarship of CAD$100/month of service to a maximum of CAD$1,000.

  • Returning student missionaries from a BU approved position
  • Verification must be provided by Student Services by August 31
  • Available for full-time students

Summer Community Service (July & August only)

Students may participate in community service during the months of July and August only and be eligible to receive a scholarship of CAD$125 / 25 hours of community service. Non-profit organizations only; and remember that summer camps are ineligible. Maximum award from any one or combination of “Summer” scholarships is CAD$1,000.

Summer Ministries Scholarship

Students who are paid by the Seventh-Day Adventist Church (including Burman and PAA) for summer service may receive a scholarship equal to 30% of summer ministry earnings deposited on account by August 31 with verification from the employer of the summer earnings. Maximum award from any one or combination of “Summer” scholarships is CAD$1,000. If you are working on campus during the summer, please review the "Summer Work Program" form.

Awards Day Scholarships

Students receiving a second degree discount are ineligible to apply or receive these awards. Evaluations are made based on GPA, Community Service, Campus Involvement, Program Participation and Financial Need. The description and criteria of the awards amounts vary from year to year.

Qualifications

  • GPA 2.0 with a minimum of nine credits. Some awards require a higher GPA and more completed credits
  • Eligible students must be returning the following year for full time studies (minimum nine credits per term excluding PLAR and Audit Credits)

Divisional & Academic Achievement

One Divisional award of CAD$4500 and one Academic Achievement award of CAD$3000 are awarded to returning students in each of the following three areas; Division of Science, Division of Arts, Schools of Education /Business. Both the GPA and a Program Involvement score, provided by the chair of the department, are taken into consideration when choosing a recipient.

Qualifications

  • GPA 3.8
  • Enrolled in at least 15 credits each Fall and Winter term of the current school year
  • Completed at least 60 credits by April of the current school year
  • Be returning to full time studies in the following school year

Leadership & Service Scholarship

This award recognizes those students who hold leadership positions or participate in significant service activities on the Burman campus or in their local church or community during the current September to April school year. Availability of 60 awards of CAD$1500 each. Students receiving a second degree discount or a full tuition scholarship in the upcoming school year are ineligible to receive these awards.

Qualifications

  • Complete 12 credits each Fall and Winter term of the current and upcoming school year
  • GPA 2.3 or 2.5 in the current school year
  • Hold a leadership position (excluding paid hourly employment or course requirements) or participate in significant service activities from September to April of the current school year
  • Available to students returning in 2023/2024 who are not receiving and have not previously received a renewable Leadership scholarship
  • Complete the Leadership/Service Application by April 30

International Student - Athletic Scholarship

International students may be eligible for Athletic scholarships after their first year on campus. Join a Burman sports team your first year on campus. Your name will be submitted to your coach for a scholarship evaluation at the end of the school year. Awards are based on skill and commitment to the team and are awarded if you are a returning student with plans to tryout for the team in the following year. Entry level scholarships begin at a value of CAD$1250.

  • Participation on a sports team each term
  • Complete 12 credits each Fall and Winter term of the current and upcoming school year
  • GPA 2.3 or 2.5 in the current school year
  • Be a current student at Burman University and
  • Be returning the following school year

International Student - Music Scholarship

International students may be eligible for Music scholarships after their first year on campus. Join a Burman music organization your first year on campus. Your name will be submitted to your director for a scholarship evaluation at the end of the school year. Awards are based on skill and commitment to the ensemble and are awarded if you are a returning student with plans to audition for the group in the following year. Entry level scholarships begin at a value of CAD$1250.

Qualifications

  • Participation on a music organization each term
  • Complete 12 credits each Fall and Winter term of the current and upcoming school year
  • GPA 2.3 or 2.5 in the current school year
  • Be a current student at Burman University and
  • Be returning the following school year

Total award amount for most general scholarships will be divided equally between the two semesters of the school year, meaning recipient must attend for the Fall and Winter semesters to realize the full value of any award. The student must register for, and successfully complete, a minimum 60% course load (9 credits excluding PLAR & Audit credits) each semester. If a student withdraws below that minimum, all scholarships will be reversed for that term.
